Shelburne Museum Pizzagalli Center for Art & Education, Shelburne, Vermont

The new Pizzagalli Center for Art and Education is a major new cultural asset for the region and transforms the Museum from seasonal to year-round operation.  Wagner Hodgson worked with the design team in exploring different locations for the building which adds 5,000SF of flexible exhibit space and 2,000SF of classroom space in addition to a 130 seat lecture and performance space.  The site plan knits together the new building with the existing visitor center and the Round Barn organizing them around a large new event lawn.  Careful attention was taken in siting the building, to offer up and frame unique views of surrounding structures including the Ticonderoga and the Memorial Building not to mention the Town of Shelburne and the Green Mountains in the distance.  Strict standards for delivery of national works of art were adhered to in laying out the site circulation and dealing with the large amount of grade change.  LEED Silver Certification – US Green Building Council.
