GE healthcare

GE healthcare

South Burlington, vermont

The design of the entry court is inspired by GE Healthcare's (formerly IDX) mission for precise, seamless transfer of medical technology and the allegory of ordering technology and the landscape. Integration of existing and new office buildings is contrasted with an architectural nexus of sinuous glass - the “Vision Center,” upon which a series of contemporary landscape elements provides connection and context. Emanating from the glassine, concentric stone arcs radiate to provide the structure within which a selection of the Vermont landscape is mapped - the Green Mountains abstracted in two types of geometric cones, one crafted of native stone signifies the barren rock mountain crest while the other is covered in rugged juniper to signify the evergreen peaks. A grove of white birch is sequestered within the stone walls underlain by a fabric of ornamental grasses and perennials edging the walks. A delicate veil of honey locust trees, organized upon the building grid and symbolizing the detailed methods of technology, cloak the entry court and extend a regimented axial framework for the arrival sequence
