westfield state college, new hall, westfield, massachusetts

Creating a new residential campus quadrangle, the new 400 bed residence hall has been organized to extend the axial relationship of the main academic campus. To connect the fabric of the campus and the new residence hall, the first phase of a pedestrian promenade, known as the “Westfield Walk” frames a distinct edge of the traditional campus green. Intersecting with the Westfield Walk, a series of simple geometric pedestrian links frames a series of new gathering areas for passive interaction and active recreation. A palette of low maintenance plant materials is integrated to frame the new residential life quadrangle and blend with the existing mature woodland setting.
